The story behind baby Lilibet's 1st Birthday dress

The baby blue outfit worn by Lili in her 1st Birthday photo released this week was purchased from the company Isabel Garreton. The firm was set up 30 years ago when Isabel was a new mother in America, having arrived from Chile. She wanted to set up a children's clothing company that would allow other mothers from Chile living in America, to work and earn a living whilst caring for their own children. The company expanded and went on to produce a wide range of children's ethically made clothing sold across America.

Kind thoughts for Meghan Markle

Sadly the business is in the process of closing. In the coming month the company will send out its final orders. Covid hit the company hard leaving the founder with no option other than, she says, to organize a "purposeful closure" whilst trying to provide some lasting financial security and independence to those who worked for the company in the USA and abroad.

It was therefore a pleasing surprise and a tribute to the hard work of all of those involved in the company to see Lili wearing an Isabel Garreton outfit in her Birthday photo. The founder of the company described seeing Lili wearing their dress as a validation of the work of the last 30 years, and thanked Meghan for choosing to buy from a woman owned ethical brand that existed to empower and uplift other women.
