Countdown to the release of the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Biography "Finding Freedom" - The UK Times newspaper interview the authors.
The Times UK journalist Andrew Billen
has interviewed the co-authors of the
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle biography "Finding Freedom", Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.
The book is officially on sale from August
11th, 2020 but given that all of the UK newspapers are serialising the book we
can assume that the press have managed to obtain pre-release copies.
Omid Scobie is directly asked in the interview whether
he had direct access to Meghan and Harry for quotes to use in the book. He denies this to be
the case. His co-author Carolyn Durand was more direct in her response
indicating that the couple have not read a proof (which they likely would have had they participated in writing it), adding "she is not even
sure whether the Sussexes will read the book.”

Prince Harry and Meghan, have since distanced themselves from the book. A spokesman for the Sussexes said in a statement: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to Finding Freedom. This book is based on the authors' own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting."
Both Scobie and Durand are pro-Meghan and Harry. Most of their published articles and tweets are very positive about the couple. However, Scobie denies that the book is totally (glossy) about the couple, saying “it’s not all from Harry and Meghan’s perspective, but I do think that for the first time we do actually get to hear what’s been going on in their minds.”
I am reluctant to read too much of the pre-release
press as my own copy of the book is on back-order and I want to make my own
judgment. However, for those of you wanting to get the Coles notes of the book's contents, many of the UK newspapers are publishing bits and pieces, starting today
– July 25th, 2020. Check out my latest podcast for more commentary
