Meghan Markle's friend Jessica Mulroney - New Fundraiser for The Shoebox Project
In 2011, Meghan's friend Jessica Mulroney and Jessica's sisters Caroline, Vanessa and Katy founded The Shoebox Project for Women. The ladies noticed that there were many opportunities to
provide gifts to children experiencing homelessness during the holiday season,
but no such gift drives for their mothers. They decided to ask friends and acquaintances
to fill a Shoebox with gifts for the holidays. That first holiday season, their goal was to collect 156
Shoeboxes. By word of mouth and the power of social media, they ended up receiving 400
Shoeboxes that year. The Mulroney sisters
quickly realized that their "Shoebox Project" had legs,
and a national movement was officially born.
Between now and the end of April 2020 Canadian women's clothing stores RW&CO. (a subsidiary of Reitman's) are inviting their customers to join the #RWGIVES movement by making a Shoebox and bringing it to
their nearest RW&CO. store. Each box will be donated to a
local women's shelter. Further 3 well-known Canadian women (Ashley Callingbull, Tessa Virtue and Karine Vanasse) who are currently promoting the fashion of RW&CO. will each be giving a portion of their campaign earnings to The Shoebox Project. Check our more on the RW&CO. website and at The Shoebox Project.
