Tatler - Using Meghan Markle to sell Magazines or What?

No wonder why the Duke and Duchess are paranoid about their press coverage.

Take UK Tatler magazine -  in September of this year Tatler crowned Meghan number 1 in their list of top 10 social risers (i.e. social climbers in a non-flattering way). Tatler wrote that the Duchess of Sussex was "the pinnacle of the greasy pole. Not quite a rags-to-riches tale (she was privately educated and her scapegrace father won an Emmy for lighting direction) but the Ralph & Russo-clad beacon of change has found a role that suits her to perfection: a tungsten toughie to drag the royal family into the 21st century."

Duchess of Sussex to grace December 2019 cover of Tatler magazineTatler describe Meghan as a social climber September 2019

Today Tatler announced that an image of Meghan will have the honour of gracing the cover of their December 2019 and 310th edition. The editor of Tatler wrote today:

"Arriving on the social scene 310 years ago in 1709, Tatler has always reported from the front lines of High Society, giving readers the inside track on the most important and influential people in the country.

So who better to appear on the cover of the special 310th Anniversary Issue than HRH The Duchess of Sussex, the most talked about woman of the day? Tatler conducted an exclusive nationwide poll on the country’s opinions on Meghan and four writers share their differing takes on the Duchess:  Lynn Barber, Afua Hirsch, Yasmin Alibhai-Brown and Lionel Shriver.

'I think the Duchess of Sussex is fabulous. I love that she is independent and not afraid of doing things her own way. I like her fashion choices, which are sophisticated and grown-up, and the way she is bringing a breath of California cool to the drab and dusty corridors of the old guard,' says Richard Dennen, Editor-in-Chief of Tatler."

Making a buck out of the Duchess of Sussex or maybe Tatler are changing their tune, frightened of being next in line to be sued in that 'cool' American way!
